George the Wizard

George the Wizard George the Wizard is one of twelve drawings from my “Fantasy is my Reality series. A story goes with each drawing that can stand alone or carry you through a magical journey that I have traveled when I opened a mystical realm with my pencil…

So begins Margauxs journey into the mysterious and enchanted realm. With pencil in hand she travels through the dark and creepy forest of no time. Suddenly she comes across a great treehouse. This is where George the Wizard resides (Yeah, I know a wizard named ‘George’, what were you expecting ‘M’? It’s already been done).

Don’t let George’s unassuming name fool you. Rest assured he is a very ancient, wise and powerful wizard who shouldn’t be toyed with!

Will George the Wizard allow Margaux to continue her journey through the forest of no time?

Bird of Paradise

Bird of Paradise Pencil ArtI love to draw nature but when I am deciding what I want to draw I always try to draw animals that are unusual.

This drawing is a combination of graphite pencil, a bit of ink and colored pencil. These birds are so amazing they almost look alien to this planet to me.

This drawing is available in cards and prints at our place of business and at my personal studio and gallery.

Erwin and Patches

This drawing features the powerful wizard named Erwin and his faithful cat companion Patches. For many years Erwin lived in a magical tree in the middle of the Black Forest by himself. He started to get very lonely so he asked an enchanted orb spider if she could spin him some golden thread so he could make himself a companion. The spider did oblige and provided the wizard with enough thread to make himself a companion. He went out in the forest and asked the faeries if they could provide him with some fabrics of various colours. When he returned to he beautiful home he started to chant a spell as he sewed together each piece of fabric with the golden thread. When he was finished his companion gave a joyous meow and Erwin said welcome to his new friend and named him Patches. He endowed Patches with the ability to speak and since that they have been the best of friends….

The Twins

Twins Pencil DrawingSo these two cuties are the most popular drawings from my “Cat Faeries” series. Not all faeries have wings! I had these two printed on mugs that are sold out so I certainly will be making more…

I have always had a fascination for twins who do not look the same and are opposites in many ways but still have a deep connection to each other. These two certainly have a connection to each other and I will be recreating them in coloured pencil and ink as well.

Every time someone would purchase these little guys they always had a story as to whom and why they were buying them.

1313 Witchwood

1313 Witchwood

This drawing is from my “Worlds in a Bottle” series.

In this series I have created worlds within various glass and bottle shapes. To me any vessel is an opening into another realm.

I would eventually like to do this drawing or something similar in coloured pencil and ink. In fact I am thinking that I might create an entire series of homes in coloured pencil where all sorts of magical beings dwell.

I also LOVE the number 13! For me it is a good luck number!

The Forbidden

Butterfly in Spider Web

A beautiful butterfly is playfully flying through a lush meadow, feeling warm, safe and happy he sees some brilliant coloured flowers at the other end of the meadow that he would like to flutter and dance around. All excited to reach his destination the butterfly suddenly stops before a web with a large spider in it. The shortest distance to the beautiful flowers is through the web.

The butterfly says, “Can I break through the web if I fly fast enough?”

The spider says “Yes you can!”

The butterfly thinks for a moment and gets a bad feeling and decides to take the safer longer path around the web to get to the beautiful flowers.

The idea behind this drawing is that even in a beautiful garden there are dangers that one must be aware of… When confronted by a situation where decisions must be made always trust your instincts because not everybody has your best interests at heart.

Magick is Real

Magic is Real

This drawing is from my “A Gathering of Dragons” series.

When we open up a book, to me it is like opening up a doorway to another realm. As children our world is filled with magic and wonder. Where faeries and dragons are real and a simple walk through a forest is an epic journey. As we grow into adulthood we are taught to exchange the childish fantasy for adult logic. When this happens I think that we lose the magic that we had as children and that makes the world feel so alive. This is why it is important to allow a small part of ourselves to believe that magick is real!.

The Scare Crows

Pencil art, Crows on scarecrowThis drawing belongs to my “A Murder of Crows” series.

I adore crows and ravens. To me they are intelligent, mysterious and mischievous creatures.

These two beauties want to raid a farmers garden. As we know crows love to collect shiny items and the one crow thinks if he plucks the shiny button eyes from the scarecrow, not only does he get a shiny gift to add to his collection but the scarecrow will also not be able to see them feasting on the farmers garden.

Friday Night Ghost Stories

This pencil drawing is connected to a very fond childhood memory. As far back as I can remember I have always loved anything supernatural and creepy. My mum’s mum Christina who was Lakota Sioux lived with us for fifteen years. She was grandma and my nanny and would always tell me Lakota ghost stories at night before I would go to bed. So I spent my childhood immersed in legends and supernatural things and I loved this stuff and still do.

Every Friday night two creepy stories were on the television, Circle of Fear and Ghost Story. Any of you who were born in the mid sixties probably remember them. I wanted so much to watch these programs but they were on past my bed time. So mum and dad said I could watch them as long as I didn’t get scared and crawl into their bed afterwards. Of course I agreed to this!

I was so excited and surrounded myself with my stuffed animals and wrapped myself in a blanket and mum would  make me some sort of treat. At this time my parents and grandma would usually be in bed so I was usually up by myself while I watched the programs. After the movies were over I would be excited and spooked so I would shut off the television and race to my bed at the end of the hall and jump on to my bed from as far from it as I could so the under-the-bed-thing couldn’t get me.

Thank you mum and dad for allowing me the treat of watching these movies and giving me a very fond childhood memory!

Bedtime Ghost Stories

Even though I am visually impaired I loved reading books. Of course my favourite books were ghost stories. Mum and dad tried to find me books with larger print but of course we did not have the digital technology that we do today that can enlarge print so this meant that the books would be huge and I still had to get really close to the pages in order to read the words. A lot of times my mum would also read to me as well.

In this drawing the little girl is reading her spooky bedtime stories and her wild child’s imagination is so vivid that it is bringing all the spooky creatures to life. She knows as long as she is on her bed and under her covers that she us safe and sound.
